The Latest Development In TV Technology - LEDs
Ever since the first inception of televisions, they have come on leaps and bounds. With the old models you only got a picture if you sat square on to screen and squinted to make out people and objects. We have come a long way since then and new generations have brought with them such things as wide screen, flat screen and surround sound.
LED-backlit technology is the latest development to find its way into the digital entertainment market. LEDs are cropping up all over the place recently, in everything from car headlights to light-up crystal vases. They are popular because they are very reliable, create very ‘true’ light and use a great deal less energy than other forms of lighting. It is true that TVs do work very well with fluorescent lighting, but as technology continues to advance and more is demanded of screen lighting, a better alternative is now needed.
An increase in demand for faster, slicker and more defined pictures, coupled with a desire for everything to be super slim, goes some way to explain why LED lighting found its way into TVs. People want their phones, stereos and even vases slim line these days, and TVs are no different. The use of a clever light diffusion panel spreads the illumination of the LEDs evenly across the screen, meaning that the LEDs only need to be placed around the edge of the television, reducing the depth needed dramatically. What this means then is that many manufacturers are able to produce TVs only 2.5cm. There are also benefits in the range of colours available to view and better dynamic contrast.
The environmental friendliness of the LED lighting is another ones of its many benefits. This form of lighting uses around four times less energy than fluorescently-lit TV screens. Further more, when it comes to disposing of them, there is a great deal less pollution. Additionally, the LED TVs are a lot safer and have less change of exploding due to power surges or contact with liquid. That said, it’s not advised that you start resting your wine glasses on top of them, just in case.
